The debut novel from Indigenous author G. M. DiDesidero . . .

The Ancient Ones journeyed from the Underworld to fill the whole earth, and the Patrons gifted the five clans with cannys . . . The Shapeshifter taught the Tigers to change their appearance; the Thunderbird taught the Birds to fly; the Parity taught the Raccoons healing; the Soul Eater taught the Shadows how to leave their bodies as they slept; and the Horned Serpent gave variable and unique cannys to the Foxes.

Centuries later, fifteen-year-old Jasper Lindstedt—a kid from Fox territory with a penchant for mischievousness—finds himself in more trouble than he bargained for after freeing a dying Shapeshifter from captivity.

Harissa Delmar, a sixteen-year-old from Tiger territory, never wanted to join the Chame-lion spy program, but she wasn’t given much choice. She is forced to carry out the unsavory duties of a Chame-lion to pay for the treatment of her mother’s escalating illness.

When Jasper is framed for murder, and Harissa uncovers a dark secret that threatens the lives of Harissa and her mother, they all must escape the city of Cambion, embarking on a perilous mission to stay alive.

Along the way, enemies Jasper and Harissa must work together as the truth begins to unfold about their world, themselves, and life as they know it.

About the Author
Author

Gina DiDesidero is a Chickasaw author, born and raised in the Tri-Cities, Washington. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Simpson University and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Washington State University. Although her early career in biology and ecology included internships at national labs and teaching, she gravitated toward writing, even if it was the dry, technical variety. She wrote many articles, websites, and research papers before daring to step into creative writing.

Along with living overseas with her family for over nine years in far-flung locations, such as the Marshall Islands and Saudi Arabia, DiDesidero joined the Peace Corps where she served the Mayan, Mestizo, and Creole people of Belize. She’s visited twenty-six countries to date. Currently, she lives in Satellite Beach, Florida, with her husband and three children—including one child with special needs, meaning flexibility is their superpower—and Marshall, their mini Australian shepherd. In her free time, DiDesidero reads enough books from her nightstand to stave off death-by-book avalanche, explores new destinations with her family, and impersonates runners on the beach.
